After
being home for a week, I looked up the
Finnair website to see if anything was
happening with our luggage, last seen at
Edinburgh airport; and it looked like it had
been flown to Melbourne. Hooray! But where?
A few days later, I checked Finnair
again. Our lost baggage report had
disappeared completely. After a few days
of contemplation I was about to ring the
airport and try to work out where
it was there; but late one night I received
a call from "baggage services", who told me
they had our luggage, and that it would be
delivered to Castlemaine the next afternoon.
And it was! And we were very happy to see it
again.
In one of the bags there was a note
from biosecurity, telling us that they had
taken and destroyed the open bag of rice we
had intended to eat in Helsinki. A very
minor issue; they had not worried at all
about the plastic drink bottles (one with
whisky, one with red wine) which had
survived the long trip unharmed. And that
night we drank the wine, which was still
very drinkable despite its long trip, and
three weeks since we had drunk its other
half.
And our covid isolation finished,
leaving us able to go out and see people
again. So we've seen the grandchildren
again; they were pleased to see us, but
Frankie, at 14 months, seems to have started
behaving just as her mother Louise did at
the same age - holding onto my trouser legs!
