I
have not been much of a computer nerd
lately, and have not done anything
on this
- website for ages. (Well - actually I have
been too much of a nerd, as our main
computer needed upgrading to Windows 11,
which it wasn't capable of; so we had to get
a new computer, and it took a bit of effort
copying files and apps over, and making it
work as closely as possible to how the old
one worked.
This involved a degree of frustration
but in the end I have got to where I wanted
to - though in the end I had to go into, and
alter, the registry - to stop it
automatically showing a silly welcome screen
with a random picture, telling me what the
temperature was. All this "automatic" stuff
drives me mad - I want to tell it
what to do, not have it just do things
behind my back!)

But,
after the minor chaos of Christmas and New
Year, we are back home in Castlemaine
finding ourselves, at times, with nothing
to do! This is not our
usual situation.It is the
middle of the summer school holidays, and
most of the usual activities we're involved
in here are on holidays too. And just now,
we're in the middle of a hotter heat wave
than we've had for a number of years, with
three days with temperatures over 40º. One
can be active outside till late morning, but
after that it gets quite unpleasant.
So we think about the next year or
two. As far as we know, we are both well;
and we try to keep ourselves in good
condition; but the older one gets, the less
life there is in front of you. So we have to
use it well.
After our little trip to the Finders
Ranges at Easter, we are arranging with some
friends to drive the motorhome up to Darwin
in July; we'll fly up there, pick it up, and
spend a couple of months driving it home via
the Kimberley and the Pilbara, missing out
on the end of winter.
And we are vaguely planning a trip to
Europe in 2027; maybe the Picos de Europa,
maybe Greenland; maybe Sardinia, or
Albania....there are a lot of "maybes".
(The pictures are from our pre-Christmas
week away, up in the Snowy Mountains).
