We are
nearing the end of this trip and both of us
are getting the "head for home" feeling.
Some of this is due to it being near
midwinter, with long hours of darkness; and
we have both been surprised at the isolation
of people in their vans. We've stayed in
some quite closely packed places, and by 8pm
you'd swear that everyone else had gone to
sleep. Sometimes a peek of light from a
window, but not a peep of noise.
And when we've stayed in caravan parks with
good camp kitchens, we go and cook over
there; but almost always, we are the only
people doing so. We remember them as very
sociable places, but on this trip they
haven't been.
After our very enjoyable trip across the
Nullarbor and up to Kalgoorlie, we went down
to the coast at Esperance. We've seen lots
of stunning beaches along the south coast.
We've also seen very, very, heavy rain, had
a bit of trouble getting out of a campsite
when it rained (just managed it!), and found
we have a leak in the roof at the airconditioning
unit. (It should be fixed under warranty,
but will have to wait until the van is back
home again.)
