Today -
we should have spent the morning
wandering around Helsinki, after landing
there at 6.30am and not being able to
get in to our apartment until 1pm. But
of course, that's not what happened.
We slept in, looked out the
window to see if there was a frost or not
(there wasn't); and after a leisurely
breakfast walked down to the station. I
left Alison there and took the train to
Malmsbury; and rode my bicycle back home,
over a lot of hills and past a lot of
people camping; it's the winter long
weekend and the first time since the
lockdown that going out and camping has
been allowed again. So I've had enough
exercise, but Alison hasn't; she is much
more affected in this way, with circus and
gym still closed.
And we also have people
staying in Finsbury again. After 3 months
of the lockdown it's strange to see the
lights on there in the evenings, but good
that it's becoming more normal. We are
lucky that we are not financially dependent on letting it
out, though. We have taken advantage of
this in having the garage door replaced
(we managed to find a garage door maker
who made us a tiltadoor, which we were
able to put the old door's windows in, and
made it look very similar to the old
tri-fold door), and then cleaning out a
lot of the junk inside. It was full of
bits and pieces from the house's renovation which may have
been handy for something - but as after 3
years they hadn't been used, out they
went. Some we advertised on the internet,
but the most effective way of having it
recycled was to put it out on the nature
strip with a "Free" sign.
This evening, we though
about a little holiday again. It's winter,
and we are stuck in Victoria and New South
Wales - the other states have closed
borders. So we can't escape to somewhere
warmer. But I realised that we've not had
a holiday since our trip to Sri Lanka last
August; too long ago. So we plan to take a
couple of weeks off and go away - somewhere.
Our 2 days of work a week
continues, but it also continues to be a
bit weird with Covid-19 fears. Alison,
working in the middle of the city, has been very
quiet - though the city is beginning to
open up a bit.
And we finally found
somewhere to put the panels depicting the
seasons, which we bought in Hobart in 2014
and have been sitting in the shed ever
since.
